One nice way to mic a shakuhachi is with a lavalier (sp?) mic,
the kind with the small, round head they use for interviews and
news broadcasters.

Both John Neptune and Mary Lu Brandwein use these and they place
them just off center by the utaguchi. The off-centered spot keeps
the mic from whistling when you inhale.
