Dear James:
It is originally written for a 1.6, as far as I know. I have a Western
notation score of it and it is written in A, which means it should be
played on a 1.6.
There is a CD by Playasound in the Masters of Zen series in which it is
perform by Kuribayashi on koto. I play it with my wife on a 1.8, which
means the koto is tuned in G (the koto would be tuned in A with a 1.6).
We find it sounds better.
Hope this helps!
