Don't change the OS - I hear that the new MAC OS is the best for audio
recording. I'm sure that Digidesign will come up with something, and if
not, there are certainly other high end competitive recording products out
there for the Mac and the new OS
I'm a Windows person but actively involved with audio recording and
production.
I participate in a music processing and synthesis list for the sound
synthesis and processing program Csound.
Most of the users are Mac people.
Shoot off an email to Dr. Richard Boulanger (Berkeley School of Music -
Boston). I'm sure he will have a solution for you that will not involve
changing OSs.
