Dear Dan:
=20
My feeling is that the level of humidity is dependent on the environment
where you are living. Here in Montreal, temperature can go up to 100
degress and more in Summer and more than -40 degrees in Winter. A huge
difference. We have to be extremely careful.
=20
Personally, I use a cello humidors but I humidify only about 1/4 of it
and I use it mainly in Winter, because of the dryness of our heating
systems.=20
=20
A friend of mine who is also an oboist put his wood and bamboo
instruments in a wood box with a small bucket of water and a sponge in
it. It is apparently the trick used by most oboists, and his shakuhachis
are just fine.
=20
Hope to this help!
=20
Bruno

To those of you who use humidors for the storage of your flutes, and to
any one with an opinion on the matter,.
What do you feel is the ideal level of humidity, and if you can provide
the names of sources or literature, that would be helpful also.
