I've seen this mouthpiece on a couple of old (Edo) shakuhachi. Neither
appears to have been a Komuso instrument. Both look like they were
made by some local flute player for his (or her) own enjoyment.
Neither was even *close* to being in tune.
On both the utaguchi was made of ivory.
