The main differences between Tozan and Kinko have to do with
ornamentation. For instance, Kinko is noted for the atari or
hitting between notes, and for some of it's players fascination
with vibrato. In Tozan, places where vibrato are to be used are
specifically noted. There is little or no hitting between notes.

This elaboration of difference could go on quite a while, if it were
being written by someone with more knowledge of Tozan than I posess.
I can read either form of notation, and play pieces from both
repertiores but do not think of myself as an expert in either.

The best way to investigate the differences is to learn to play
both forms. Learning to do so opens up a whole new repertiore
and teaches you more about your original school.

Who was it that said, the person who speaks only one language
understands none?

Whole new worlds await you!
