RE: Pieces for 2.4

As I once said on one of my websites:

"Last night I was listening to a CD of shakuhachi pieces by Yoshio
Kurahashi, entitled Kyoto Spirit. While I enjoyed several of the pieces, I
especially liked Kyorei, which is the oldest known Shakuhachi piece. It is,
as the liner notes say, slow and quiet, which I appreciate, and because of
its straightforward quality, unencumbered by technique. While the notes are
quite good, I really appreciate being able to hear the wind in the bamboo in
this master's playing, and all the little incidental trills and whistles
remind me of the crackle in the glaze on a teacup."

I've since lost the original CD (still have the case!) but fortunately I
saved a mp3 of his Kyorei... I'd have to say that this is my favorite
version...

Since we've been discussing Kyorei of late, I thought I'd mention that
Kurahashi sensei's CD, "Kyoto Spirit", has his version of Kyorei played
on a 2.4. It's a joy to put on headphones and play along on your 2.4.
Try it, you'll definately like it. Ajikan is also on this CD, played
on a 2.4. BTW, the liner notes say both are played on a 2.3, but it's
a 2.4.

Along this line, Kakizakai sensei's CD has two wonderful performances
on a 2.4; "Tamuke" and "Sanya" - the Dokyoku versions.
