When I first blew into a shakuhachi thee months ago, I didn't have any =
inordinate difficulty with my embouchure, probably because I was already =
a reasonable transverse bamboo flute player. But I've heard some guys =
can't even get a tone on a shakuhachi for days or weeks.
And, if you're one of those guys, have no fear, your answer is at hand.
The same guys who make the fabulous cast ABS plastic "Yuu" shakuhachi =
have now come out with a FIPPLE ATTACHMENT for it which pops into the =
top of the flute. And if you just blow into it any old way, you get the =
proper tone - the fipple attachment directs the wind for you. And the =
whole idea is you use this little gizzwhizz until you learn the basic =
fingering, then you leave the attachment off and concentrate on your =
embouchure.
You can see a picture of the fipple and get the detail on my site at =
http://www.shakuhachi.ws/teaching.htm.
Happy RO-BUKI!
