All,

Who are we to judge another member by their beliefs or their website. I
joined the list not long ago to learn more about the shakuhachi. I have
found many of Gene's messages interesting and have learned quite a lot
by reading discussions between Gene and others. I couldn't care less
about his political views or background. I'm not here for that. If a
thread starts going off on a tangent between one or two members I would
prefer that they take it off line but, geez I can easily hit the delete
button and it doesn't take more than a second. Bruce's decision to take
Gene off the list was well founded and I agree it was the right thing to
do at that time. It put an end to the ranting that had grown out of
proportion. The discussion that followed has been enlightening, to me at
least but I would like it if we could all move on to the subject we're
here to talk about. =20
While we're casting votes, mine would be to bring Gene back in. He has
admitted he was out of line and apologized. In my book, that's enough
to give him another chance.

Let us be clear here:

1. That which was "expressed" by Gene Neill was not a "difference of=20
opinion" but vicious spate of incivility toward a list member who=20
expressed a point of concern with a great deal of respect. That list=20
member, David Sawyer, may have unintentionally addressed his concern=20
to the entire list, rather that privately to Gene Neill, but that=20
hardly excuses this kind of response.

2. Call me hard-hearted, but I have difficulty trusting someone who=20
attributes his lapses in behavior to his checkered past: time as a=20
Marine, travails and training as a lawyer, his aging mind. We live in=20
the present, we perform in the present.

3. I have had an encounter with this fellow, treating him with=20
considerable generosity; he eventually treated me with the same=20
hatred and condescension as he did David Sawyer and the rest of us=20
"little girls". This is not an isolated incident; anyone who speaks=20
down from on high and says he will "pray" for the likes of poor David=20
Sawyer does not get my vote.

4. If you want some more insight into Mr. Neill, perhaps you should=20
visit his other two websites:

Best to all,
eB
