When i saw Iwamoto play this piece, he was covering the bottom of the
flute with his leg in order to hit those notes. It was amazing how
fluidly he was able to do so. He also writes about this in his
article on new music for shakuhachi in a journal from the mid 90's,
"contemporary music review". That issue of the journal is dedicated
to shakuhachi and flute and has other great articles including one by
Frank Denyer himself.
