SURF AND SHAK 05
We are pleased to announce the Hawai'i Shakuhachi Festival 2005, an=20
intense weekend of shakuhachi workshops, a public concert and a student=20=
concert. The Festival is cosponsored by the University of Hawai'i Music=20=
Department.
The Festival will be lead by experienced teacher/performers of various=20=
backgrounds and lineages. There will be opportunities to learn ensemble=20=
pieces with koto accompanists. See below.
Participants from Japan, Australia, Hawai'i, mainland USA and Canada=20
will attend - Hawai'i is the perfect place to catch up with old=20
friends.
Attend this festival to keep your shakuhachi playing 'in green room',=20
practised up and ready, for example, for the Shakuhachi Summer Camp of=20=
the Rockies next June.
Interested parties should email Patricia - patricia@rileylee.net
People needing accommodation are especially encouraged to book early.
There are very cheap airfares from Australia and Japan. We don't know=20
about fares from the rest of the world, but assume that there might be=20=
other deals out there, too.
Registration/booking procedures, early bird cut off dates, details re:=20=
venues, etc. will be in a later announcement.
This is an excellent and unique chance to combine your surfing with=20
shakuhachi.
Little known 'fact' #1: many Edo komuso were excellent surfers,=20
snorkelers, and ocean swimmers.
Little known 'fact' #2: a number of present day shakuhachi=20
professionals also surf.
Little known 'fact' #3: there has NEVER, EVER been an instance where a=20=
shakuhachi has cracked or split while being played on a surfboard!.
