if your exposure to urushi had systemic implications or you were simply
highly sensitive to it, even the smell of wet urushi at a later time may be
enough to trigger an allergic reaction. After all, if you can smell it,
it's present in the air. Also,

if you were unsuspecting enough to pick up a shakuhachi without asking about
inclusion of urushi and when it might have been applied, then you just might
have walked away with the chance of chalking up a well-learned-lesson. One
I might add that has been learned by thousands before you and probably
thousands after. Consider yourself initiated!
