Greg brings up a great point. That every flute and maker is different.
I was at the Festival last year in New York. There were several flute makers there and I played a lot of flutes. I was shocked to find that price didn't go along with quality. I remember playing a $5,000 flute that was awful and several others in the 4,000-2,000 range that matched its quality of sound. It was an education in itself. I eventually got a great one from Monty and had John Neptune try it out. It recieved John's stamp of approval. It truly is a great flute! After I've been playing it this past year I know it was the right one for me. By the way I prefer one piece.Fewer parts to worry about.
I also bought a Yuu from Pangea instruments while at the festival. It is what it is, a mass produced injected plastic flute. However, it does have a good sound. (Better than some at the festival) It is good for someone just starting who doesn't want to shell out hundreds or thousands. No instrument is unbreakable, Even pvc shakuhachi can be unplayable if the itaguchi is chipped or broken.
I wish the Yuu came in other sizes. like 2.0 or 2.4
All the best
Dominic
