Wow that sounds very interesting. I wonder if it might
have been the komuso from the temples, who perhaps had
no other good means of earning money and so reverted
to playing on the streets again even perhaps after not
being monks any more? Anyway it's nice to hear that
it continued. It also makes me wonder about the
diversity of todays honkyoku. If many people continued
playing, then I wonder how many of them got to pass on
their music to the next generation. I.e., how many
people still play now from seperate lineages.
Presuming that the ways of playing and repetoires
varied a lot, even now there may be people playing
away somewhere in old various ways.
