Perhaps it was Kogan Murata? In which case he may be

That's why I rather played in my honest ordinary
clothes. And, a lot of people appreciated it. Some
didn't of course, like a few grumpy shop keepers but
God bless them. But the people that did appreciate it
appreciated it because of the music. People reminded
of their father or (more often) grandfather, or many
koto players, and even some young people who had never
seen the shakuhachi before, never liked it either, but
now liked it and became interested in it! I think that
is lovely. Of course some fellow shakuhachi players
too, though very few.
Maybe this is closer to Komoso than Komuso?
