Greetings Shakuhachi List Members,=A0
I am writing to announce the details of the "Shakuhachi Summer=A0Camp of=20=
the Rockies IX,"=A0June 21-25, 2007, less than four months away!
Visit http://www.shakucamp.com/=A0 for more info right now, including=20
registration materials.
This camp offers the most concentrated learning experience most=20
shakuhachi students in the world might encounter this year. It also=20
offers a very special concert, at 7pm, Saturday, June 23, at the=20
Sunrise Ranch Dome, Loveland, Colorado
This year's camp continues to incorporate a specially formulated=20
Beginner's Curriculum and a highly concentrated Intermediate/Advanced=20
Course, and offers some seriously delightful shaku-community. Our goal=20=
is no less than to make your Shakucamp experience the most valuable 5=20
days you will spend with the shakuhachi this year.=A0
1. "Special Beginner Curriculum." For anyone who has come into =
the=20
possession of their first shakuhachi any time in the past two years,=20
this camp is for you! The six core faculty of Shakucamp since its=20
inception, Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, Michael Chikuzen Gould, Kaoru=20
Kakizakai, Yoshio Kurahashi, Riley Lee and David Wheeler, representing=20=
almost two centuries' teaching experience, continue to modify and=20
improve what may be the most effective Shakuhachi Beginner Curriculum=20
to be found.=A0
For the duration of camp, all beginners will be following=20
this=A0curriculum with one of its authors. Faculty will change daily so=20=
students can enjoy the individual strengths of each faculty member.
2. "Advanced Curriculum" Teachers will spend a lot of time=20
concentrating on a modest number of pieces, thoroughly covering=20
technique and musicality,=A0thus guaranteeing you will come away from=20
camp with new repertoire and technique under your belt.
3. "Universal Curriculum" For one period each day, ALL camp=20
participants, from Beginner to Advanced, join together for lectures and=20=
instruction on some core facet of the Shakuhachi: repertoire,=20
technique, theory, philosophy, history, lore and more.=A0
4. "Shakucamp Jump-start Program"=A0 You can actually start your =
camp=20
experience months before arriving at Sunrise Ranch in late June. Camp=20
registrants will be given access to a private page on the Shakucamp=20
website where sheet music files of the teaching materials and pieces=20
offered at camp can be browsed, perused, and downloaded at will. Audio=20=
files will also be=A0made available for musical reference.=A0
Our strong faculty will be offering a wide ranging and very deep=20
curriculum. In addition to the standard classical Honkyoku (Zen solos)=20=
and Sankyoku=A0(shamisen/koto/shakuhachi), and modern solos and=20
ensembles, faculty=A0will teach improvisation and much more.=A0
It is going to be a wonderful 4 nights and 5 days. We hope to see=20
you=A0there!=A0
Cheers,=A0
David Wheeler (2007 Summer Shakuhachi Camp of the Rockies, Faculty=A0
Representative)=A0
