[Shaku] Moving Shakuhachi

The Japanese postal service has recently changed the rules about importing
and exporting. These changes apply to shakuhachi. Any item with a declared
value of ¥200000 or more must now be formally declared. This is a new rule

Customs inspectors will believe your flute, which you may be sending back to
Japan for whatever reason, is being imported into Japan if you not declare
the Country of Origin of Goods as Japan. This is important to expedite
delivery. Stopping in the customs house for this reason can delay delivery
for more than a week. Even if there is no space on your postal form for
this category, write it someplace anyway. And try to keep the declared
value such that the paperwork is not necessary. Your package will be
delivered in Japan promptly and safely if you post it as Express Mail
Service (EMS). This is a Japanese term so the name of the service changes a
bit from country to country. Your post office will know details. This is a
Registered and Track able way to send shakuhachi safely.

Midway through the evening news the postal truck, a medium sized one,
exploded and burned about 200 meters from the gasoline station where it has
just been refueled. Luckily, there were no shakuhachi in that truck! Or
were there...
