1. Business models & business plans

Understanding business models is one key of a successful M&A. Simply
put, how will you and me make money together? We see logical and
not-so logical ideas about how to go about creating and sharing value.
But most of the time there is no mention of how they plan to do that.
We advise customers to have an action plan, detailing the steps after
completion of the deal. M&A makes sense once you are past the deal,
after Post Merger Integration and others. Is going business as usual
enough, and worth all the effort? The rational for mid to big scale
M&A must be stronger, and a stepping-stone toward a new business model
(we recommend: http://www.businessmodelgeneration.com/). Business
plans remain paper (Powerpoints), whereas the models lead to
execution, and ultimately to successful operations.
