Bruce;
Your bio sounds somewhat like unto mine.
Was a music student at UMKC in Kansas city, studying trumpet and voice. We
had a group performing from florida state university on koto and shakuhachi.
I was intrigued at the sounds, but didn't persue it further unil about seven
years ago when I heard a recording of John Kaizan Neptune on a local radio
station. I was absolutely blown away. Ordered recordings but it never
occurred to me to try to play the instrument until my we went on vacation
and my uncle told me about Lark in the Morning, and explained that he had
ordered instruments from there. I immediately got a catalog and soon there
after ordered an inexpensive flute (made by Monty Levinson). That was in
October of last year. Have been playing it every evening as my normal evening
ritual (shakuhachi, T'ai Chi chuan, and meditation). I've been working on the
exercises in the John Neptune shakuhachi book. Reciently have ordered
another, more refined instrument from Monty. I have, as yet, been unable
to locate a teacher in my area........the one who was listed in Dallas;
Monty Levinson's web page, is no longer living at that address.
