虚無僧
Nothing like trying to find the meaning of a Japanese language character
without seeing it. Unfortunately, Herb's letter did not give the characters
so one can only assume that they were 虚無僧. If this is, in fact the
case, then here are the individual meanings from my handy textbook of
reading and writing Japanese characters. Taken together, your guess is as
good as mine.
虚, pronounced "ko" or "kyo", means "empty" or "vain".
無, pronounced "mu" or "nashi", means "to be non-existent", "not to have",
"to be missing", "to lack", "to be deceased".
僧 , pronounced "sou", means "Buddhist priest" or "bonze".
Hope all your computers are bilingual or else you are out there in
nothingness land.
ばんべって!
