Dear Shakuhachi folk,
forgive me this brief self-introduction;-
I first encountered the shakuhachi in the south of England at Dartington College 16 years ago, I was lucky enough to became a student of Yoshikazu Iwamoto who was then artist in residence at Dartington. I came to Japan (for the second time) six years ago to study shakuhachi construction and playing. I know live in a City called Iida in between the Central and Southern Alps, Iida is famous for apples and small town conservatism! I studied flute making with Tom Deaver for four years, and have been a student of Yokoyama Katsuya these last six years.
The shakuhachi is my hobby, and has enriched my life and taken me to places I would never otherwise have been, to meet people I would never have met. My shakuhachi-free parallel existence is poorer in every way!
I am looking forward to exchanging news and information with you all, perhaps we can continue the old tradition of mis-information, or at best wild inaccuracy that has contributed so much to the mystique of our beloved music.
