Hi Andres
Circular breathing is used by very few shakuhachi players; Akikazu
Nakamura and Ned Rothenberg use it effectively and i am sure there
are others as well. Many people (such as the gross Kenny G) use
circular breathing, merely as a gimic to make people say, "wow, he
can hold a note a long time" without musical merit. Robert Dick wrote
a book on circular breathing for flute.
It is used by many clarinet players and sax players, particularly
those doing new music very effectively. Check out players like Evan
Parker, John Butcher or my friends Joe McPhee and Jon Raskin for some
excellent examples of sax players using circular breathing to develop
a style of music that would not be possible without it.
