Hi all,
In a recent trip a friend described what he called a 'circular
breathing' way to play an instrument. The basic idea was to keep exhaling
through the mouth while inhaling with the nose, keeping a constant flow of
air and therefore a continuous note. He said to practice blowing
continuously with a straw in a glass of water. Is this technique common
for professional flute players? Is it part of the techniques to play the
shakuhachi?
