Thanks to all who sent me congratulations. I'm mostly glad it's over! I second Ronnie's
observation about Aoki Reibo. I grabbed a front-row seat, and although one expects a lot from a
player like him, I was nonetheless similarly blown away by his performance, no pun intended. It
was one of the highlights of the weekend.
I recently received the very sad news that my friend Phil Sudo, author of "Zen Guitar" and other
books, passed away in June at the age of 42. "Zen Guitar" is a wonderful book, not just on Zen but
on the procees of learning music, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with an interest in
either (or both, as befits this group). Phil was smart, thoughtful, humble, and full of heart, and
that shows through on every page. His website is <http://www.maui.net/~zen_gtr/> which has a
journal of his battle with cancer that in itself is worth a read. The Zen Guitar project is
ongoing and there will be a memorial concert for him in NYC this fall.
