I just finished reading the cancer journal on the Zen Guitar site. Knowi=
ng=20
how the struggle ended made the story very sad. However, it was also ver=
y=20
inspiring. I recommend it to everyone.

Thanks to all who sent me congratulations. I'm mostly glad it's over! I=20
second Ronnie's
observation about Aoki Reibo. I grabbed a front-row seat, and although on=
e=20
expects a lot from a
player like him, I was nonetheless similarly blown away by his performanc=
e,=20
no pun intended. It
was one of the highlights of the weekend.
I recently received the very sad news that my friend Phil Sudo, author of=
=20
"Zen Guitar" and other
books, passed away in June at the age of 42. "Zen Guitar" is a wonderful=20
book, not just on Zen but
on the procees of learning music, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to=20
anyone with an interest in
either (or both, as befits this group). Phil was smart, thoughtful, humbl=
e,=20
and full of heart, and
that shows through on every page. His website is=20
<http://www.maui.net/~zen_gtr/> which has a
journal of his battle with cancer that in itself is worth a read. The Zen=
=20
Guitar project is
ongoing and there will be a memorial concert for him in NYC this fall.
