Actually, there are quite a few amps now on the market which, while
looking pretty much like guitar amps, are much more neutral in sound
'color', particularly those designed for keyboards and acoustic
guitars. Some even have XLR inputs with phantom power on board (such
as the Crate brand, for example).

It's also possible to drive as small auxilliary speaker to achieve to
source points for the audio.

The small PA with a mixer ain't a bad idea, but it's likely to be
more expensive in toto, and there's also a lot more to DO.
