Here is a wonderful 'self-massage' neck exercise.

Sit upright in a straight backed chair or kneeling comfortably, slowly drop
your head forward then raise it slowly, do this three times but on the third
lowering begin to rotate the head in a clockwise direction. Rotate it nine
times then reverse the direction and rotate it again nine times.
Do this very slowly, it may take you 20 minutes to complete one group of
nine rotations. While rotating keep the head lowered as far as is still
comfortable without causing excess pain, you will feel the tension in the
extended muscles on the opposite side of the head to that which is lowered.
You can feel the full length of the muscle from the top of the spine to the
bottom, and all around your back and shoulders, plus the muscles in your
chest.
After completing the anti-clockwise rotations lower the head forward three
more times before again sitting upright and resting. You should feel a deep
relaxing of your torso from the base of the spine to the head.

Kel.
